Make-up artist Maja Rickner reveals how she created a smouldering party look for Lily James – Downton’s Lady Rose

Smokin’ Hot “For Lily’s smoky eye, I used different shades of Maybelline Eyestudio Mono Eye Shadow, £4.09 (1) each. First, I dusted Naked Beige over the eyelids, up to the brows and into the socket. Next, I used Iced Fudge to outline a ‘V’ shape on the outer corners of the eyes, before shading her lids with Chocolate Chic. I finished with a flick of MUA Pro Gel Eyeliner in Underground, £3.”

My Fair Lady “Lancôme Teint Miracle Foundation, £27.50, is perfect for enhancing Lily’s fair skin.I buffed it on with a small brush, then used Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Fair, £23, under her eyes to hide shadows. To stop shine on the T-zone, I applied Shu Uemura Sheer Face Powder, £26.50 (2), all over.”

Lashing Out “Lily wanted a rock-chick look, so I built up her lashes with Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara, £22 (3), starting at the outermost lashes and working in. I applied the mascara using a zig-zag motion, which makes it easy to pull through the lashes to create a full, feathery effect.”

Blush Baby “To add a youthful flush to her cheeks, I swept Lancôme Blush Subtil in Rose Sable, £27 (4), on to the apples using a big blusher brush. Next, I used a smaller brush to build up the same colour along the cheekbones for a pretty, precise finish.”

English Rose “Having dabbed foundation on Lily’s lips to create a lasting base for colour, I used a brush to apply Lancôme Rouge In Love in Rose En Deshabillé, £21 (5), along the cupid’s bow, across the middle of her bottom lip and into the corners of the mouth. Next, I filled in the rest of her lips, blotted, then applied a second coat.”

Wow Brows “As Lily has full brows, I simply used an angled brush to dab on Maybelline Eyestudio Mono Eye Shadow in Chocolate Chic, £4.09, to fill in any gaps. Eye shadow has a lighter texture than eyebrow pencils, but still gives rich colour.”

Creamy Canvas “Using my fingertips, I massaged Suqqu Makeup Base Creamy, £33 (6), into Lily’s skin – the super-smooth texture minimises pores and gives make-up serious staying power. Next, I swirled Rimmel London Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Touch in Radiant Rose, £4.99, on to her cheekbones. This made sure her English-rose glow radiated through.”
